Using the milder stuff like Prozac as a stopgap pill at the ending of therapy is something I hadn't considered, but it sort of makes sense. The "advantage to this type (SSRIs) is that they are both antidepressants and anti-anxiety so you only have to take one medication. I was in outer space, the worst year I've had at work (14 years on this job). And stopping these drugs abruptly does have dangerous side effects as mentioned on this thread. As I recall, that stopping prozac cold turkey woman that drowned her five kids had recently stopped taking Haldol, a drug I have only heard about... that it is very dangerous to stop and can cause severe psychosis (sp) and even suicide like the SSRIs. I have spent the last three months titrating to a new anit-seizure medication stopping prozac cold turkey recently approved for treatment of biploar disorder (Lamictal- it's great).. I digress. I don't know what my doctor has in mind in coming off of the lithium but knowing her, it will be very slowly, as it should be. I was on wellbutrin for about six years. The SSRIs do zippo for her.
