This test involves the injection of a radioactive tracer through an intravenous (IV) line, which will flow through the bloodstream and picture lasix be filtered out by the kidneys. Pictures are taken continuously from the time the tracer is injected for 1 hour. At the end of the hour you are asked to go to the washroom and a one-minute picture is taken. During the pictures the nuclear medicine doctor will give an injection of Lasix® through the IV picture lasix line. Lasix® will make your kidneys work harder increasing urine flow for the pictures. Patient Preparation: You should drink plenty of picture lasix water prior to the picture lasix test and go to the washroom immediately before the test begins. Inform the technologist if you have any allergies picture lasix to sulfa drugs. Please bring a list of all medications and supplements you take. This includes vitamins, picture lasix herbal remedies, and holistic medications. Please do not bring children or pregnant women with you picture lasix to the department. picture lasix We do not want to expose them to unnecessary radiation. Procedure: A technologist will briefly explain the test to picture lasix you and try to answer any questions you may have about the picture lasix procedure. A Lasix Renal Scan is a series of pictures of the picture lasix excretory or urinary system of the body - in other words, the picture lasix kidneys, ureters, bladder and the urethra. The pictures will help your child’s doctor determine if these body parts are formed and picture lasix functioning properly. How does the urinary system work? The blood picture lasix circulates through the kidneys. They filter and clean the blood to produce urine. The urine then flows out of the kidneys down through the ureters to the bladder. When picture lasix the bladder is full, the urine passes through picture lasix the urethra out of the body. Why was a Lasix renal scan ordered? The Lasix Renal Scan will record how the kidneys, ureters and bladder function together. A nuclear medicine radiologist (a medical doctor who has advanced medical training in the chemistry and physics picture lasix of nuclear medicine tests and treatments) will review the scan record. The radiologist may find each of these body parts function well and no further treatment may be needed. However, the radiologist may find one or more part is not functioning properly. Who will perform the Lasix renal scan? A radiologist assisted by a nuclear medicine technologist will perform the scan. Also, the radiation compound will lose most of its radioactivity in hours or days. What must be done to get ready for the test? If your child received sedation, he/she will be monitored until responsive and then discharged. If no sedation picture lasix is given, the child will be discharged immediately after the scan.
