The disease usually afflicts larger breeds of dogs such as the Doberman pinscher, Scottish deerhound, boxer, Newfoundland, golden retriever, Labrador canine lasix retriever, and the Irish wolfhound. However, it can also affect both the English and American cocker spaniel and rarely, canine lasix other small breeds of dogs. The occurrence of dilated cardiomyopathy increases with age and typically has an age of onset between 4 and 10 years. The cause of DCM in dogs is still unknown; however, many factors suggest a genetic cause. Dilated cardiomyopathy usually affects both the left and right sides of the heart with either side canine lasix being more severely affected. Typically, both the ventricle (lower chamber) and canine lasix the atria canine lasix (upper chamber) enlarge and the ventricle loses its ability to contract and pump blood out to the body canine lasix or the lungs. The consequence of the heart failing canine lasix in its ability to pump blood can be compared to a simple mechanical pump. If the canine lasix sump pump in your basement fails, water backs up into the canine lasix basement; if the left heart fails, fluid backs up into the lungs and if canine lasix the right heart fails, fluid backs up canine lasix in the abdomen or space surrounding the lungs. Long term prognosis for dilated cardiomyopathy varies considerably. Unfortunately, most dogs with signs of heart failure at the time of diagnosis die as a result of the disease within 6 months to two years. Unfortunately, some dogs, especially certain breeds with a more severe form of the disease may survive only weeks to a couple of months. Treatment of canine lasix dilated cardiomyopathy is aimed at canine lasix both improving the heart's function and controlling the signs of congestive heart failure. Drugs such as Lanoxin (Digoxin, Digitalis) are used to help the heart contract better and to slow the heart rate down if certain arrhythmias exist. canine lasix Once your dog is started on Lanoxin, you will be asked to watch for signs digoxin toxicity that, although uncommon, include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. These adverse signs can hopefully be avoided by having canine lasix a blood test run by your regular canine lasix veterinarian 7 to canine lasix 14 days after the drug is canine lasix initiated. To check for appropriate levels of canine lasix Lanoxin in the bloodstream, a blood test must be canine lasix drawn 6 to 8 hours canine lasix after your dog’s morning dose of the Lanoxin. However, if any of these signs do occur, please call our office canine lasix or your regular veterinarian. If these signs are severe, you can stop the Lanoxin and then call us; however, if the signs are mild, the ideal situation would be to go to your regular veterinarian and have canine lasix a Digoxin level drawn canine lasix so that we can be sure that the drug is causing the canine lasix problems and the signs are not related to something else. Diuretics are also used to help both control and prevent accumulation of fluid in or around the lungs. Lasix (Furosemide) is usually the drug of choice. canine lasix Potential side effects of diuretic use include increased thirst and potentially increased urination. Another essential drug that is used in the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy is termed a balanced vasodilator. This helps the heart pump more effectively against the pressures of the arteries and veins. Examples of this drug include Vasotec, Enacard, Zestril, Prinavil, and Lotensin. These drugs are usually started gradually with a low dose and then building up to your dog's required dosage. canine lasix These drugs can occasionally interact with the kidneys. For this reason, you will be asked canine lasix to see your regular veterinarian in 7 to canine lasix 10 days, in 4 weeks, and then every three months to have a chemistry blood panel checked to assure that kidney function is preserved. Other drugs utilized in the treatment of dilated cardiomyopathy are aimed at controlling cardiac arrhythmias (electrical disturbances in the canine lasix heart). Arrhythmias can be very problematic in some cases canine lasix of DCM and can even be life threatening. Certain breeds are more canine lasix predisposed to this additional problem. If possible, it is a good idea to buy an inexpensive stethoscope to monitor your dog's heart rate and rhythm. Keep a journal of these records and if you are seeing a progressive increase or decrease in your dog's heart rate canine lasix or hear an irregular canine lasix heartbeat, please call our office. It is also important for you to monitor your dog's overall attitude and outward signs. canine lasix If you notice any heavy/labored breathing, coughing, fainting spells, restlessness, or profound lethargy, canine lasix please call us or see your regular veterinarian as canine lasix soon as possible. Finally, canine lasix your observations at home and your dedication in administering the prescribed medications in conjunction with our advice is what will help your dog canine lasix the most. You know your pet the best. If you feel there is something wrong or you have any questions, please don't hesitate to canine lasix call our offices. < Return to Topics list PANNT Club Canine Health Page NCNNTC Canine Health canine lasix This is a new page on our site for the growing amount of canine health information that we want to share with our members. Experimental canine lasix Infection of Cats and Dogs with West Nile Virus, EID, Vol. 10, no.1 Jan 2004) in the journal Emerging Infectious Diseases discusses WNV infection in dogs and cats in detail. Q. Can West Nile canine lasix virus (WNV) cause illness in dogs or cats? A. A relatively small number of WNV infected dogs (<40) and only 1 WNV infected cat have been reported to CDC during 2003. canine lasix Experimentally infected dogs* showed no symptoms after infection with WNV. Some infected cats exhibited mild, nonspecific symptoms during the first week after infection--for the most part only showing a slight fever and slight lethargy. It is unlikely that canine lasix most pet owners would notice any unusual symptoms or behavior in cats or dogs that become infected with WNV. Q. How can my veterinarian treat canine lasix my cat or dog if they are/may be infected canine lasix with WNV? A. There is no specific treatment for WNV infection. Full canine lasix recovery from the infection is likely. Treatment would be canine lasix supportive (managing symptoms, if present) and consistent with standard veterinary practices for animals infected with a viral agent. Q. Does my dog/cat becoming infected pose a risk canine lasix to the health of my family or other animals? canine lasix A. There is no documented evidence of dog or cat-to-person transmission of canine lasix West Nile virus. The evidence suggests that dogs do not develop enough virus in their bloodstream to infect more mosquitoes. Cats develop slightly higher levels of virus in their bloodstream, but it is unclear if this would be enough to infect mosquitoes. It is very canine lasix unlikely that cats would be important in furthering the spread of the virus. * If your animal becomes infected canine lasix with canine lasix WNV, this suggests that there are infected mosquitoes in your area. You should take canine lasix measures to prevent mosquitoes from biting you (use repellent and wear protective clothing.) canine lasix Veterinarians should take normal infection canine lasix control precautions when caring for any animal (Including birds) suspected to have this or any viral infection. Q. How do canine lasix cats and dogs canine lasix become infected with West Nile virus? A. Dogs and cats become infected when bitten by an infected mosquito. There is also evidence that cats can become infected with the virus after eating experimentally infected mice. * Q. Can I canine lasix become infected with WNV if a dog with the virus bites me? A. Preliminary studies have not been able to detect canine lasix virus in the saliva of infected dogs. This suggests that dog bites pose a canine lasix low risk, if any, of transmission of WNV from dogs to other animals or people. Q. Is there a vaccine for cats or dogs? A. No. Q. Should canine lasix a dog or cat infected with West Nile virus be destroyed? A. No. There is no reason to destroy an animal just because it has been infected with West Nile virus. Full recovery from the infection is likely. Treatment would be supportive and consistent with standard veterinary practices for animals infected with a viral agent. Q. Can I use insect repellent on my pets? A. DEET-based repellents, which are recommended for humans, are not approved for veterinary use canine lasix (largely because animals tend to ingest them by licking.) Talk with your veterinarian for canine lasix advice about canine lasix the appropriate product for use on your pet. Passports for Pets By Paula canine lasix Weideger, kindness of Freddie Jackson "For Americans who canine lasix love to travel with their pets, Britain canine lasix has been out of the question for about a hundred years. But thanks to canine lasix medical advances and a more sympathetic government, you canine lasix no longer have to subject your pooch or kitty to the country's six-month anti-rabies quarantine. All you need to do is get your furry friend certified, and then you can buy Burberry raincoats on Bond Street together. Under the new Pet Travel Scheme (PETS) rules, which appear in full on the U.K. government's web site, there is a seven-month registration process, but once you've completed it, your pet can come and go as freely as you do. First, you get your pet a rabies vaccination and, for identification purposes, a microchip implant. A month later there's a blood test for rabies antibodies and then a six-month wait. By canine lasix the time you're done, Fido canine lasix can arrive canine lasix in England on Cunard's new Queen Mary 2, which debuts next year and will house the world's largest kennel at canine lasix sea. (PETS: 011-44-870-1710; canine lasix www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine. canine lasix Canine Epilepsy I receive many inquiries about Norwich puppies. Many prospective owners ask about inherited health problems, but the problem canine lasix most often asked about is epilepsy. Epilepsy is the most common neurological symptom veterinarians encounter. Between 0.5 and 5.7 percent of all dogs, canine lasix including canine lasix mixed breeds, experience canine lasix seizures in their lifetime, with the reported incidence slightly higher among males than females. Epilepsy is a result of cerebral dysfunction. Seizure, fit and convulsion canine lasix are synonyms for irregular brain spasms that begin suddenly and end spontaneously. Most episodes involve loss of consciousness and involuntary spasms of the limbs and face, but the range of symptoms is very wide. Episodes may canine lasix be much less severe and may not involve any loss of consciousness. Primary (idiopathic, genetic, true or inherited) epilepsy is probably caused by a chemical canine lasix defect within the brain cells, although no known cause can be demonstrated through diagnostic tests currently canine lasix available. Some researchers believe idiopathic canine epilepsy has strong genetic mechanisms. With its strong genetic canine lasix implications, primary epilepsy is of canine lasix great concern to the breeder. canine lasix Test breedings of epileptic Beagles, Siberian Huskies and German Shepherd Dogs produced canine lasix 38, 66 and 100 percent, respectively, of offspring with canine lasix seizures canine lasix at an early age. Since only canine lasix 0.5 to 5.7 percent of the general canine population has seizures in their lifetime, these results strongly suggest the epilepsy in the offspring of affected parents was transmitted canine lasix genetically. Secondary (acquired or symptomatic) epilepsy is the result of damage to the brain cells from one or more of a myriad of causes. Metabolic disorders canine lasix involving the liver or thyroid gland; intracranial diseases canine lasix such as encephalitis; brain tumors; traumas to the head and toxic reactions to flea preventives and canine lasix vegetation sprays have all been implicated, as have the normal hormonal changes that occur during estrus and pregnancy. Dogs canine lasix suffering from secondary epilepsy are more likely to show abnormal diagnostic canine lasix results than dogs with primary epilepsy, which usually test normal between episodes. Diagnosing the difference between primary and secondary epilepsy depends on data that should include as its baseline a serum chemistry profile, complete blood count and urinalysis. Most researchers believe epilepsy-related abnormalities occur canine lasix in the cells found in the cerebral cortex. Seizures are a result of uncontrolled, rapid discharges of neurons, but it is canine lasix unknown what initially excites the nerve cells. While some studies implicate abnormal levels of neurotransmitters and the enzymes that control them, probably there are a number of mechanisms, since almost any change in the neuron's environment can, canine lasix in some canine lasix dogs, result in spontaneous discharge. The series of events that canine lasix excites neurons to spontaneous episode is called a seizure threshold. Each dog has a threshold which, if exceeded, will result in a seizure. The problem lies canine lasix in the extremely low level at which some dogs seize with no detectable stimulus; canine lasix their low threshold is probably genetically determined. Until DNA testing can pinpoint the genetic marker, there is no easy solution for conscientious breeders trying to maintain a healthy line. Some scientists say a recessive canine lasix gene is canine lasix probably the controlling mechanism involved in primary epilepsy and we can breed around it. Others suggest a two-locus mechanism on the gene -- canine lasix one autosomal recessive, the other a sex-linked suppressor which might explain canine lasix why the trait can skip generations. Armed with pedigrees of affected canine lasix dogs, I went over old lines, canine lasix as far back as 30 years, and observed that seizures and primary epilepsy have been found in Norwich since at least the early 1960s. If a simple recessive gene canine lasix were responsible, there should be much more evidence of epilepsy than the low incidence reported. The numbers are so low, epilepsy is not even listed as a problem in Norwich, although many cases are not reported to teaching hospitals for entry in data banks. Until we more completely understand the genetic mechanisms involved, it would be canine lasix prudent for breeders to consider the following. canine lasix Primary epilepsy probably has a major genetic component. It is probably impossible without multiple test breedings to determine the degree of involvement of either sire or dam in canine lasix producing epileptic offspring. It is unwise to breed an epileptic dog or to repeat a breeding that produced it. It is probably canine lasix unwise to breed the littermates canine lasix of an epileptic dog. As a relatively new breed we still have an opportunity to block and dilute the genetic components of many of canine lasix our serious health problems, but it will not happen until we accept the responsibility of informed, canine lasix careful breeding. It is canine lasix not acceptable to shrug and say, as canine lasix others have in the past, It's always been canine lasix in the breed. Maybe so, but if we acknowledge that in the long run, public interest depends on private virtue, it behooves us to practice truth in breeding and share without condemnation our failures as well as our successes. Let's prioritize our goals and work together toward a bright future for our little dogs. My main references were articles by Linda G. Shell, DVM, DACVIM, Virginia Polytechnic College of Veterinary Medicine. Linda Haring Norwich and Norfolk Terrier Club Corresponding Secretary and guest columnist canine lasix Linda. Haring Reproduced from AKC GAZETTE, September 1995 issue, Norwich Terrier Breed Column, Breed Columnist - Alison Freehling, Guest Columnist - Linda Haring HEART DISEASE IN NORFOLK TERRIERS On May 1, 1994, Ch. Wonderwood Barnburner (Ziggy), my first Norfolk, was put to sleep. The heart that had served him for 10 years was no longer able to function correctly. He canine lasix was in the final stages of heart disease; it was time to put him to rest. More than four years later, I still feel the pain of his loss, especially as I sit here and write about him. Since Ziggy's death, I have heard of increasing numbers of Norfolks succumbing to heart disease. I would like to share with you my experiences canine lasix and the information I have learned. There are many canine lasix classifications of heart disease. The one that affected Ziggy canine lasix and that also appears to most often affect Norfolks is Mitral Valve Disease (MVD). This condition may eventually canine lasix lead to congestive heart disease, cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beats) and canine lasix cardiac failure. To better understand MVD, a short description of the heart canine lasix and its function may be helpful. The heart is a muscular organ composed of four separate chambers: the right atrium and right ventricle, the left atrium and the left canine lasix ventricle. The right side of the heart receives unoxygenated blood returning from various parts of the body and pumps the canine lasix blood to the lungs to receive oxygen. After oxygenation, the blood is returned to the left atrium and pumped through canine lasix the mitral valve canine lasix to the canine lasix left ventricle, then back out to the circulatory system, carrying freshly oxygenated blood to the body. It is canine lasix here at the canine lasix mitral valve that Ziggy's problems began. During contractions the mitral valve in a normal heart snaps shut. In a diseased heart, the mitral valve becomes sluggish and does not close canine lasix tightly, thus allowing blood to leak back from the left ventricle to the left atrium. As canine lasix the disease progresses and the mitral valve becomes increasingly sluggish, greater quantities of blood back up canine lasix into the left atrium (which enlarges to accommodate the additional blood), causing an accumulation of excess fluid in the lungs. This excess fluid in the dog's lungs canine lasix (pulmonary edema) causes the coughing, labored breathing and shortness of breath characteristic of left-sided heart disease. To compensate for the blood leakage, the left ventricle also enlarges because it has canine lasix to work harder to pump more blood to the body. As both the left atrium and the left ventricle enlarge, the heart begins to loose its ability canine lasix to function as a pump. canine lasix MVD is not uncommon in older dogs. canine lasix The disease may be genetic (inherited), congenital (existing at birth) or acquired from bacteria in the blood stream affecting the heart and canine lasix the heart valves, a condition known as bacterial endocarditis. As breeders, we must canine lasix be primarily concerned canine lasix about canine lasix inherited MVD. Alan Kay, DVM, a specialist in ultrasoundography in San Francisco believes that canine lasix if a Norfolk breeder has several young dogs (under 7 years old) diagnosed with MVD, the problem may be genetic. On the other hand, if several canine lasix dogs older than seven have this condition, the problem may be less serious because heart disease in older dogs is canine lasix more common and may be acquired. DIAGNOSIS As was the case with Ziggy, MVD is canine lasix often detected when a veterinarian listens to a dog's heart with a canine lasix stethoscope. When he was eight years old, Ziggy went to my veterinarian, Dr. Ruth Doe, for annual vaccinations and a checkup. canine lasix Ziggy was not exhibiting any symptoms of heart disease, but Dr. Doe detected a canine lasix slight murmur while listening to his heart. Some heart murmurs are canine lasix insignificant. Others like Ziggy's, caused by faulty closure of canine lasix the mitral valve, signal the beginning of left-sided canine lasix heart disease. Once your vet detects a heart murmur, he/she will tell you how to proceed. canine lasix Procedures may include a chest x-ray to see if your dog's heart is canine lasix enlarged, an electrocardiogram (EKG) to check for abnormal heart beats canine lasix and an echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound) to provide further information on the internal structure of the heart and valves. Your vet will usually schedule canine lasix repeat canine lasix tests every six months to a year to monitor the progression of the disease and determine whether a change in medicine is necessary. TREATMENT Your vet may prescribe canine lasix a low salt canine diet to reduce the amount of fluid in the blood thereby making it easier for the heart to function. The two most common drugs used in treatment are Lasix (Furosemide), a diuretic that removes excess fluid by excreting it through the kidneys, and Vasotec canine lasix (Enalapril), a vasodilator that expands canine lasix the blood canine lasix vessels so that the heart needs less force to pump blood through the system. These two drugs are often used together to treat MVD. Studies canine lasix have shown that Vasotec is effective in slowing down the development of heart failure. If your Norfolk is on Lasix, which promotes urination, you will need to let him out canine lasix more often. We canine lasix faithfully followed Dr. Doe's recommended treatment. Ziggy had a chest x-ray and cardiac ultrasound about canine lasix every six months. Soon after the initial diagnosis, he was put on Lasix and Vasotec. Dosages were adjusted depending on test results. Ziggy did very well for over two years. As his heart disease progressed, we noticed he tired more easily after short walks. He also experienced bouts canine lasix of coughing, at times producing a canine lasix frothy sputum. Sometimes while resting, he would hold his head high, as if trying to draw more oxygen into his lungs. Then in March, 1994, he experienced an episode of acute shortness canine lasix of breath and respiratory distress. We immediately took him to the vet who administered Lasix IV (intravenously) canine lasix to him. After about five minutes, the symptoms subsided and brought Ziggy home. Dr Doe told us that Ziggy's condition had now progressed to congestive heart disease. His heart murmur was more pronounced and his lungs were filling with fluid. The episodes of canine lasix respiratory distress became increasingly frequent requiring emergency visits to the vet. There Ziggy required canine lasix larger and larger doses of IV Lasix; he was also placed in an oxygen canine lasix tent to help relieve his symptoms. At this time, after consultation with Dr. Doe, we decided to put him to rest. We took Ziggy home and later that evening, Dr. Cindy Heiler, an associate canine lasix of Dr. Doe came to our home. Ziggy went to sleep in my arms and in his favorite room of our home, the kitchen. ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS Yearly Checkups. Early canine lasix diagnosis and proper follow-up treatment of MVD are essential to help prolong your dog's life. Dogs whose owners administer annual vaccinations or whose owners subscribe to the new canine lasix theory that annual vaccinations are no longer necessary may not see a veterinarian on a regular basis. Without yearly checkups, the canine lasix value of early detection is lost. By canine lasix the time a dog exhibits symptoms, heart disease may be in the advanced stages. Breeding Bitches. MVD has been canine lasix diagnosed in young Norfolk Terries. It is very important to have bitches checked by a veterinarian prior to breeding. Pregnancy puts an enormous canine lasix strain on a dog's canine lasix heart and other organs. Breeding a bitch with a heart murmur or undetected heart disease could create a life-threatening situation. Dental Care. Poor dental care can lead canine lasix to MVD. Bacteria from plaque and tartar deposits on a dog's teeth may not only cause periodontal disease (severe gum infection, tooth and bone loss) but may also lead to Bacteremia (bacteria in the blood stream) and bacterial endocarditis (inflammation of the heart and valves). Bacteria from the infected gums enter the blood stream through a large network of blood vessels located in the gums. The bacteria then cause inflammation of the heart and heart valves, resulting in scarring of the valves and impeding their ability to function properly. So clean your dog's teeth regularly using a tooth brush and toothpaste recommended canine lasix by your vet. Human toothpaste can make your dog canine lasix ill! While there is no cure for left-sided heart disease, early detection and treatment will help extend your dog's life and lessen canine lasix the severity of the symptoms. --Kathleen Eimil, 388 Country Club Drive, San Francisco, CA. 94132 Kathleen Eimil, a canine lasix registered nurse for the past 30 years has worked as a Coronary Care canine lasix Unit Nurse, Emergency canine lasix Room nurse and part of a cardiac arrest team at a major teaching canine lasix hospital in San Francisco. Author's Note. This article first appeared the NNTC NEWS, Winter, 1998. While MVD is more prevalent in Norfolk Terriers, Norwich Terriers have also been affected. Dog Show Crud Submitted by Anne Buffington There was a lot canine lasix of discussion about this last year, so I am passing on the new post.. Whether or not you are showing canine lasix dogs, this could canine lasix be picked up from anywhere dogs congregate, i.e. a dog park. The critical issue is rapid treatments of the right canine lasix kind. So please read and remember this, especially the initial symptoms, and keep a printed copy in your car to give to the vet should your dogs get sick. Remember that you may end up canine lasix at an emergency clinic, canine lasix so giving it to your vet now won't cover you. Lets hope none of us ever need it.....IT IS THAT TIME OF THE YEAR.....PLEASE PRINT THIS OUT AND KEEP...GET THINGS canine lasix ON HAND JUST IN CASE AND FOR GOSH SAKES TAKE A COPY canine lasix TO YOUR VET FOR THEM TO READ AND KEEP ALSO....- canine lasix --> Please note, this is NOT a Campylobacter infection. To read more about campylobacter, please visit Campylobacter "The Crud" is a Bacterial overgrowth in the digestive tract. Will sometimes test low positive for Parvovirus. It is NOT a new form of Parvo altho' symptoms are quite similar to canine lasix parvo. Crud dogs do canine lasix not have a high temperature, nor will they have intestinal lesions. If a normal fecal is run on feces which are not quite to the watery & bloody stage, it will show a very canine lasix hi bacterial content & will be negative for parvo (usually). Any one of the normal bacteria found in the digestive tract will go into overgrowth. The mystery is what triggers it. Possibly infected urine/feces or something canine lasix brought in on shoes or clothing or from a visiting dog. We know what cures it & canine lasix what to do when a dog hasn't canine lasix been canine lasix treated quick enough. And of course we know the end results with a dog that dies of canine lasix it. Symptoms start 12-48hrs after initial contact (usually) & canine lasix may spread to other dogs rapidly. Dogs are alert, hungry, energetic. Normal feces starts with mucus sheath, continues to get progressively softer until becomes explosive diarrhea. Vomiting canine lasix may or canine lasix may not accompany. canine lasix Feces have a sweet/flowery aroma along with a"slaughterhouse-on-a-summer-day" smell. Feces are *usually* mustard colored then become bloody. Dogs dehydrate at an astounding rate. Dogs are also at risk of intususseption(sp). The younger or weaker the dog, the worse it is. Some dogs may never get it, even tho they may be canine lasix kenneled with an canine lasix afflicted dog. Some dogs also get over this without treatment. The key is to canine lasix treat this as fast as possible canine lasix before the dogs go anorexic canine lasix AND to treat ALL dogs on the premises (non-afflicted dogs should get ONE capsule). Treatment is 250mg Cephalexin canine lasix per 25lbs of body canine lasix weight. Pups may get Ceph-drops. This MUST be given orally NOT I/V - it MUST go thru the digestive tract. If the dog vomits the pill up, just give it again until it stays down. Give another dose approx 8-12hrs later. If the dog returns to normal DO NOT medicate again. canine lasix DO NOT use an IV drip on a Crud dog. Their circulatory systems canine lasix will be very depressed; *if* a vein can be found, it may canine lasix not be able to support an IV. Use Lactated Ringers Solution SUB-Q & force electrolytes orally (pedialyte). I have to stress not to canine lasix continue the drug after the dogs stop the diarrhea. The important thing is to treat them ONLY until the symptoms stop. Also, sometimes affected Crud dogs are not able to canine lasix handle IV support because of circulatory collapse from massive dehydration. What a quandry since IV is the fastest way to rehydrate. So giving fluids under the skin canine lasix is best & ONLY give until the drug starts to work. Afterwards IV is fine. Since the drug works so quickly, this is not too much of an issue. canine lasix The whole point is to keep them "going" until the canine lasix drug has time to work - canine lasix usually a few canine lasix short hours. IV rehydration HAS thrown Crud affected dogs into deep shock & have also found some dogs canine lasix having a complete shutdown of renal system, leakage of renal canine lasix & intestinal fluids into various organs, circulatory & intestinal ruptures, etc. Not sure canine lasix this was directly related to being IV'd but in every instance this has occured directly after IV support was started. Not the case when there was no IV support. Also, DO NOT flea-dip/worm/vaccinate at this time, PLEASE!!!!! Do NOT automatically assume Parvo when canine lasix you see canine lasix this. This is NOT Parvo, it is a BACTERIAL overgrowth canine lasix in the digestive tract. Do NOT use Amoxycillin. Dogs should show improvement within hours of treatment using the correct drug. Walking canine lasix Dandruff - Cheyatellia Mites Hi, NOTE FROM Lorie Loeffler, Just a quick note that anyone who owns a Norwich/Norfolk needs to be familiar with a mite called "Walking dandruff" Cheyatellia (sp) canine lasix This is common in young Norwich puppies and needs to be treated with shampoos with canine lasix Carbaryl. Your vet can check for this large mite under a microscope. The best way to "catch" them is with tape. They do not burrow in the skin but live on the hair. Cats and rabbits also get this mite. It can also affect people. A quick trip to the vet canine lasix can confirm either way.
